Rising up from the Atlantic Ocean, Cabo Espichel offers not only impressive oceanic and geological landscapes, but also extremely rare plants, dinosaur footprints (ichnofossils) dating back approximately 129–150 million years, monuments and sanctuaries.

The area is a geosite of great paleontological value, offering a hike that combines history, natural and cultural heritage, legends, and breathtaking panoramic views over the ocean and coastline.

• ○ Start of the route at the Sanctuary of "Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel"
• ○ Ermida da Memória and Lighthouse
• ○ Pedra da Mua sites, Jurassic dinosaur footprints
• ○ Lagosteiros sites, Cretaceous dinosaur footprints
• ○ Visit to Lapa Colorida (or Lapa of a Thousand Colours) depending on sea conditions
• ○ Return to the starting point

► "Ribeira do Cavalo, the Path of Vertigo"

The hike along the west coast of Sesimbra is breathtaking and offers panoramic views of mountains and sea, with imposing rock formations and cliffs, and magnificent beaches. It includes the descent to the paradisiacal beach of Ribeiro do Cavalo, known for its wild beauty and size, and for the singular rock that resembles a horse’s head.

Activity summary:

• ○ Briefing at the meeting point, at the Wind Sports Center, in Sesimbra
• ○ The route begins with a stunning view of the Forte do Cavalo bay
• ○ The Path of Vertigo requires us to wear our personal protective equipment to safely overcome this section
• ○ We begin the descent to the isolated bay of Ribeiro do Cavalo beach
• ○ On the return we will visit the cave of Forte do Cavalo, with evidence of occupation since the Iron Age
• ○ Return to the Wind Sports Center
